Welcome

Dear friends, colleagues and professionals in the naval and maritime sector,

The Spanish Association of Naval Architects, Marine and Ocean Engineers is pleased to welcome you to the 62nd International Congress of Naval Architecture, Marine Technology and Maritime Industry. This Congress is, since 1961, the reference forum in terms of communication and exchange of experiences in the technical, scientific and professional field in our sector.

The Association is approaching the centenary of its foundation in 1929. With this milestone on the horizon, the Board of Directors has decided to strengthen the character of a professional, informative and communication forum on scientific and technical advances in naval architecture, marine technology and maritime industry. Because of that, we will guide the main activity of the Association in this direction: the Congress, the Naval Engineering Magazine, round tables and technical conferences that we regularly organize.

This Congress pursues two objectives. The first one is the attention to four of the most significant sectors in which we operate:

  • Merchant Marine, special ships and passenger vessels
  • Defense
  • Fishing
  • Offshore Wind Energy

In this way, we are meeting the demand of our colleagues to analyze the challenges and technological advances from a more specific and sectoral perspective. The digital transformation, already a must in all our activities, and the energy transition are unavoidable topics on our agenda and are reflected in the large number of presentations that deal with these issues.

Offshore wind energy, especially floating wind energy, is an area of opportunity for our country and specially for our profession. The importance of this is reflected in a specific program on this subject. This is reinforced by the activity of our commission dedicated to marine renewable energies, ENERMAR, which annually dedicates technical conferences of a high technological level.

The second objective is to promote its international character. On one hand, we want to raise awareness and integrate technical advances in other countries and, on the other hand, we want to use the Congress as a showcase for our technology and give it visibility in the countries where our companies and colleagues develop their activities.

The importance of this Congress for the sector is reflected in the composition of the Honorary Committee, which recognizes the above motivations, and, especially, by the acceptance of H.M. King Felipe VI to preside over the Congress.

We hope that the program will be of interest to you and that you will enjoy the activities that the organizing team has prepared.

Best regards

Diego Fernández Casado
